Friday Night BBQ - All you can eat for 150 baht      Friday Night BBQ      Friday Night BBQ - delicious food

Since June 2006 Phuket Richard and his wife Megumi from Japan have been hosting a Friday Night social get together for Forum members and their families.

The all you can eat BBQ is at "Mama's & Papa's restaurant-bar-mini golf centre" in the south of Phuket Island just down the road from Don's Mall  at Rawai.

The western style BBQ dinner starts at 6pm and is only 150 baht per person and 100 baht for jugs of Chang beer.

We have just returned from 2 months in Phuket and attended 8 of these social get togethers.  The food is fantastic and its great to meet all the forum members from around the world.

THE MENU AT THE FRIDAY NIGHT BBQ

One of the biggest feature items on the menu for the evening are the potato dishes. Thailand has only one potato crop per year and they can only be grown in the colder areas in the far north of the country.

French fries, baked potatoes, potato salad and potato gratin (my favourite), also known as scalloped potatoes in some areas are all served during this all you can eat dinner.

Falling off the bone BBQ ribs, chicken steaks, pork steaks and pepper steak along with Swedish meatballs and sausages are hot off the grill all evening.

Kebabs with prawns, egg rolls with sauce and asparagus with a bacon wrapper make an interesting addition.

The salad bar and fresh seasonal fruit round of your dinner.

Jugs of Chang beer for only 100 baht are offered along with the normal assortment ay reasonable prices of beverages, spirits, good white and red house wine by the glass.

THE SUNSHINE BAR

As the adults socialize while waiting to be transported to the Sunshine Bar the kids keep themselves entertained on the mini golf course that surrounds the restaurant.

After dinner at 7.30pm everyone is ferried down to the Sunshine Bar for some more socializing, drinks and fun, with some great improvised entertainment around the 'Pole'.

The big thing that makes the Sunshine Bar different is that the staff do not engage in paid intimate gratification with the customers like most other places on the island. They receive a good salary and get their commission from the drinks that they sell.

The girls have Bongo drums, Tambourine's, Castanet's, Thai bells and Flutes behind the bar and they have a great singing, dancing and musical act that they do all night.

They also love children and involve them in the musical act and by the end of the evening most Friday's it is shoulder to shoulder dancing with kids and adult Forum members.

See the comments below from families who have bought their children to this night out.

Because of families and people who have tours or activities planned for the next day the return transfers are arranged for 10pm though you can stay longer if you wish.

Join the Pole Climbers Club at the Sunshine Bar and see if you can make it to the top to ring the bell.

This has turned into quite an event for Forum members, it is not as easy as it looks and there are certainly some interesting techniques.

If you can stop laughing long enough, give it a try and don't forget your camera.

This Friday night get together is now so popular that bookings must be made.
To add your name to the transfer and reservation list you need to email Richard and Megumi in advance, so click on the link below for more info on how to book.

We just returned from our trip (only a short 6 night stay) and we loved the Friday BBQ & Sunshine Bar.
Just a note to people with kids.
We have 2 boys ages 6 & 3 who really enjoyed the music, dancing and pole climbing, good clean fun.
Thanks to Richard and Megumi for showing us a great time!

This was our last night in Phuket and I don't think I've laughed so much in my life.
The BBQ was awesome and the Sunshine Bar was the best entertainment we have ever had!
The girls were great and Nathan made it up the pole.
When we go back to Phuket we will definitely go there again.

It was great to meet other people from the Forums and all our Aussie friends.
